A spreadsheet automation tool that reads UPC lists and enriches them with product details from trusted databases, cutting hours of manual research down to one upload.
The challenge
Inventory and e-commerce teams were spending hours manually looking up UPC codes to fill in missing manufacturer, price, image and description fields. The work was repetitive, error-prone and impossible to scale across large product lists.
No single product database has complete coverage, so the real challenge was combining multiple sources, choosing the best match and formatting the result into a spreadsheet the team could actually use. Speed and reliability mattered because users would upload lists of hundreds or thousands of items at once.
Our approach
- 1Built a Node.js backend with a high-performance integration layer that queries multiple product databases and merges the results.
- 2Designed the enrichment pipeline to normalise data and format it for direct spreadsheet compatibility.
- 3Created a React frontend with drag-and-drop upload, inline data previews and real-time processing indicators so users can track progress.
- 4Added batch processing and smart caching so repeated codes don't trigger redundant lookups.
- 5Built CSV and XLSX export flows so enriched data drops back into the user's existing workflow.
What we built
Multi-source enrichment engine
Pulls from multiple product databases, merges matches and fills in manufacturer, title, price, images and descriptions with the best available data.
Drag-and-drop upload
Users drop a spreadsheet onto the dashboard and the platform begins processing immediately, with progress shown for each document.
Inline data preview
A clean table view of enriched UPCs with product images and details, so users can verify results before exporting.
Batch processing & caching
Large lists are processed in batches and repeated UPCs are served from cache, keeping costs down and response times fast.
Export-ready formatting
Results are formatted for CSV and XLSX export so teams can import enriched data straight into their inventory or e-commerce tools.
